I lurve my Crock Pot. I really do. I should use it more often than I do, but it never ceases to amaze me how yummy food can be with such minimal actual effort. Super Yummy! :)
This morning whole The Boy was shovelling YoBaby and bananas into his mouth as quickly as possible, I threw the following into my magical Crock Pot:
A 2.5 lb Chuck Roast, seasoned with Salt, pepper, and garlic powder
1 huge sweet onion, thinly sliced
2 sliced bell peppers, 1 yellow, 1 orange
3 stalks of celery, chopped into large-ish pieces
5 whole cloves of garlic
1/2 cup of Cattleman's Smokehouse BBQ Sauce (the rest of the bottle in the fridge)
1 1/2 cup of Cattleman's Original BBQ sauce
1/2 cup water
1 entire bottle of Anchor Steam Beer
I set it to low, at 11am, and it's already smelling great in here. By 6 or 7, we'll be eating yumminess over some 10 minute cooking brown rice, and with a side salad.
I mean 10 minutes of minimal prep-work, and dinner is virtually done? I've spent longer than that waiting in the Starbucks drive-through for a latte.
Seriously, Best. Invention. EVER!

Monkey says!
Yay! Travis is finally napping!
We went to the park with some Mommies from our Mom's Group for a few hours. Travis ran around everywhere, and just had a blast!
I got a workout in, too, chasing him around - so doubly good!
He's getting a bit better on his talking. I have been working on "nose" "ears" "eyes" and "toes" with him all week. He will point to his nose and say "no" and then to his ear and say "eye". LOL! He knows what toes are, he says "toe" a lot. He went up to the statue of Dennis the Menace at the park, and pointed to his toes and said "toe!" Cute. Probably to soon to worry, but I'll do it anyway... he doesn't seem to be able to say "s" or "d" at the end of a word yet.
But he says "yeah!" and "No!" and "OK" and something that kind of sounds like "yogurt" but it's all jumbled up.
He uses speech and signs together a lot of the time. He says "bir" for bird, and also does the sign at the same time. He always makes a certain sound "dooodoodooo" as he's doing his sign for elephant, and Butterfly is "buh buh buh" while he opens and closes his hands. Whenever he sees a Starbucks or a McD's he kinda whispers "yeahyeahyeahyeah" and does the eating sign.
Water is "LALA!" and he calls the lake, the bath, the flushing toilet, and the ocean all "LALA!" He says it over and over "LALA LAAALAAA LAAALAAAAA!" It's cute, but I keep correcting him on the right way to say water. He'll say "lala" and I'll hand him his sippy straw cup and say "Do you want some WATER, Travis?" And he'll go "Yeahh!"
So we have, "mama", "dada" "uh oh", "outsye" (for outside, "bubba" (for bye bye, and also for BUBBLE), "ca" for car, "ba!" (for ball or balloon) "tercoo" (for circle) "taaa" (for star) "appuh" (apple), "nana" (banana), "tru" (for truck), "lala", "Dickey" (for Mickey or, to my chagrin... for his penis), sock, shoe, pasta, cooka (for cookie) cracker, chee (for cheese), yeah, no, "bir" (bird), "OK!", "Grapa" for Grandpa, baby,"gur" (for girl), "dog-uh" for dog, or "rururu" (as the sound a dog makes), "turta!" (for turtle) "teetee" for thank you, "ssshh" (for fish) "osha" (for ocean, and only when prompted), "Boomfoo" for Zoboomafoo (one of his favorite tv shows) eye, and toe. Also tons of signs.
I have worried a bit about his speech, because I've heard that kids 18-21 months should be using like 5-10 new words a DAY! And combining words, too. And, well, we're nowhere near that... so I worry. But, here we are, and now he's at 30+ words and signs. Also, I'm a paranoid first-time mom... so you know how that goes... But, I guess it's just like all milestones, they do it when they're good and ready, and not a moment sooner.

It's in the water....
Sorry for being MIA... if anyone even noticed, LOL!
Been just taking advantage of us feeling SO much better. We've been all over this week... the Aquarium (with the mommys from our Mom's group), the beach, long walks on the trail, the park, Farmer's Market.... you name it. Haven't even been online much except for a quick email check.... been too tired to blog. Eh.
Wednesday, I got my GORGEOUS fabric for my CUSTOM Ring Sling... just sent it out yesterday. Can't wait, it's gonna be SO freaking gorgeous!
Besides that? The two girls in our Mom's group who are pg are due in like 6 weeks?! That's nuts, considering it only feels like they told us a couple of months ago. ANother one just found out she's pg as well. So, 3 out of 12. Yikes. They're dropping like flies! LOL!
Not to mention my bloggy beotches, Anne, Leslie (crossing all appendeges for ya, girlie!)
Hmm, anyone else? Oh, yeah! Can't forget about the Aitch. Wow.
Gotta wait 'til after we go to Mexico in the spring before we can join the preggo-again club.
On that note, gotta go, The Boy is rubbing banana YoBaby in his hair.

Bouncing back!
Well, everything is mostly back to (ab)normal here...
This cold is getting to be done... (and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!) And at this moment Travis is getting into mischief, pulling Kleenex out of the box 1 by 1... So, yeah, he's doing well. Save for some residually gnarly diapers... we're feeling much better! Yay!
I've been walking on the trail an hour a day since last Wednesday, minus the weekend.
It's been nice to get out, get some exercise, and I plug my portable speakers into my iPod, and we both rock out. Trav is is getting more used to his jogger, and he likes to look at the sea lions on the rocks. I got some kick-ass new Nikes yesterday for our walks. See?

They are like this, except grey and silver with accents of pink instead of blue! Cute! :)
For my birthday, we went out on Saturday to the Fish House. It was GREAT! Too bad my taste buds were not working at their full capacity, though. :(
Pretty much just hung around, messed with our digital pictures, etc. for the weekend. We went to the Pub on Saturday and had some pints. That was fun! I had my digital scrapbooking layouts printed @ Costco. They turned out AMAZING! :) I'm really glad, because I was afraid I wouldn't be happy with the printing on those 12x18 prints. The pages are 12x12, so I have to trim off the extra.
Travis just took one of my DVDs that I use to back-up my files, and put it in the DVD player. He actually put it in the correct way, which kinda freaks me out! Not to mention he can open, close it, and press play, already! :) I put in a Baby Einstein DVD for him, and he's trying his best to repeat the names of the animals. SO CUTE! WHen the lion shows up on the screen, he always goes "uh, oh!" Heh.
My mom is coming today, and we're going to lunch and the Farmers Market. Hopefully the sun will come out, because it is currently cloudy and lame out there.
Well, off to make cheesy eggs for The Boy's breakfast, and eat some Kashi for me. I think I am going to make coffee, too. Or maybe just green tea with my kick-ass lotus flower honey. YUMMY!

Whew!
Talked to the nurse.... So, not Chicken Pox. Most likely a viral rash related to being sick. The barf? Most likely because of (gross, sorry) him swallowing all the mucus from his runny nose. Oh, ok. Not so flipped out now. Thanks!
It's not a real party....
'Til someone gets barfed on!
Guess who that would be? Yup, me. Happy Birthday, indeed.
I put in a call to the Ped. Nurse... cause I realize Travis also has all these little red (itchy) bumps all over his shoulders and upper back. Please, please, please don't let this be Chicken Pox!! It would suck a LOT! Plus, I have never had them, so, double lame if he does.

Lovely....
I took Travis to the Pediatrician this afternoon.... just to be sure he was ok. He hadn't peed ALL DAY! He has not been drinking any water, hates the Pedialyte, and doesn't even want popcicles. Only all boobie, all the time. It's getting old.... a little, I mean my left boob is SO sore... and you know he's the one-sided exclusive nurser!
He's perfectly fine. Old Ass Ped. (whom, as I mentioned was MY ped. growing up...) is of the opinion that nursing Travis is comforting, but not "doing much nutrition-wise at this point."
Hmmm. Okay, and my kid has had 6 animal crackers, some yogurt, and a small amount of Mac 'n Cheese (which he hurled) TOTAL in 3 days. So, yeah, I think he's getting nutrition. Otherwise he'd be like, dying, and dehydrated!
Guess what? My birthday is Friday. AND, I now have a terrible headcold, and runny nose. AND? Our hot water hasn't worked all day, so I haven't had a real shower with shampoo, since SUNDAY! AND I started my period. So, in short, it sucks to be me right now!

Turn, turn, turn
Baby Boy ate dinner for the first time in 2 days last night. His favorite... Annie's White Cheddar Shells.
And, then he fell asleep on the couch. He kept coughing.... So I sent Jeff to the all-night pharmacy at 11:30pm for some cough medicine. He called me because they didn't have the Vick's 44E Pediatric Formula. Something about taking it off the market for some bad ingredient. Yeah, well, great! Dr. Sears, you really need to update your medication recommendations, then! I went over the list of active ingredients, and after he talked to the pharmacist, he got something else.
Jeff returns with the Walgreens brand of Robitussin DM.
First of all, the frickin' thing comes with a dosage CUP. AARG! I don't have a med-dropper... cause you know, the kid's never been sick. So, I winged it, and measured it into the cup, then used the dropper that came with the Infant's Tylenol instead. The cough syrup is a lot thinner than Tylenol, so it just ran right out the dropper, onto the floor. AARG, again! So, Travis awakens, kicking, screaming, freaked out, and still coughing... while I'm trying to give him this stuff.
Finally I am able to get a small amount of medicine in, after he spits out most of it. Still, screaming, and flipping out. Then it happens. He wretches, and hurls. You haven't lived, I tell you, until your toddler barfs Annie's White Cheddar Shells all over you, and into your cupped hand.
You also haven't lived until you have to get yourself and the most PISSED OFF TODDLER ON THE PLANET into the shower at midnight. Yeah, our neighbors love us, I'm sure!
Anyway, after we decontaminated, he nursed, and fell back asleep. Yay!
Although, early (6:00am) he started flailing around our bed, restlessly. So, we set up camp in the living room.... he's snoozing on the inflatable toddler bed right now.
At least he's comfortable, for the moment.

Awww...
Well, Travis is still sick. He was barf-free til we went to Costco last nioght. And threw up in the car. He didn't go to sleep until 2:30 am.... and then woke us up by throwing up all over our sheets and hour later. Lovely!
So, besides that, he's not barfed since. Now, though, he's got this pitiful cough, and a runny nose. I'm thinking flu, but, maybe not....
I'm cooking up some Chicken Soup in the Crock Pot.... so maybe he'll eat some later. Hopefully at least some broth. I doubt it, but at least Jeff & I can still enjoy it, even if he won't eat it.
Travis refuses to drink water today, or the Gerber Pedialyte stuff. Nope, won't have anything to do with it. Hence, he's still nursing like a fiend, and I have to drink gallons of water myself, just to keep up. Right now he's napping on our bed, so I need to go stay with him, to make sure he doesn't roll off the 3 foot drop. Yeah, that would make him feel SO much better! ;)

Sick baby boy... :(
Well, our streak is over. Travis officially has his first stomache flu.
Poor baby. He woke up at 7:00 am crying, half asleep, not wanting to nurse. I got uut of bed with him, and then he threw up. Aww....
The good news is, we were out of town at the Il's this weekend. (Another in-depth post about our great weekend will follow, complete with pictures.) :)
Since we got home late last night, Travis was tired, and cranky, and fell asleep without eating dinner... only nursing. So, only milky-barf is FAR better than toddler-food-barf. Ick.
We'd done something we normally never do, and put him to bed with us in just his diaper. So, another plus. He threw up on me, and I was naked. So was he. Easy to clean up! Anyway, he nursed again, and threw up immediately.
He didn't want food, or water, only to nurse. And, even though I knew he'd just throw up again, I let him nurse to his heart's content.
He's been a cuddle-sweet-bunny-boy today. All he's wanted to do is cuddle, snuggle, nurse.
I got him to eat a tiny bit today. (1/2 a Yob Baby yogurt, and some Veggie Booty)
Thankfully, it stayed down. Also, he drank some water, which relieves me. I've had a million glasses today, trying to keep up with the constant nursing.
He's finally started peeing, which also relieves me. And, he hasn't thrown up for several hours! Yay!! But, now, he's got runny poop, which sucks.
I don't know what caused it, and it really doesn't matter, I guess.... the important thing is he's starting to feel a bit better. And that makes me happy, too!

Time... and silk anniversary!
Ahhh.... where does the time go? Seriously... weeks just frickin' FLY by! My birthday (29th) is a week from tomorrow. I was only 17, like last week, right? Seriously... when I think that Jeff and I have been together for nearly 12 years!!! That starts fuh-reaking me out!! Just a little. Add into the mix that Travis will be two in just 3 short months? Absolutely terrifying.
So, um, yeah. That's where I am right now.
In tying in with the Silk Anniversary... LOL... actually, it's not our 12th wedding anniversary... it's our 12th year together. I think 9th wedding anniversary is something boring like pottery... but you get the point.
Anyway... I decided as my birthday gift to myself to get something I've been wanting. Something that is completely frivilous, and seriously impractical. Especially, since Travis is getting SO big... Especially, sice I already have a LOT of carriers... But...I am having a custom ring sling made. Not just any old ring sling. Nope. A two layer, silk dupioni, and silk brocade ring sling. A GORGEOUS, over-the-top dry-clean only piece of art, that with my mommy-uniform of jeans, thong sandals, v-neck t-shirts, and often unwashed hair - I have absolutely no business even wearing. But I'm going to anyway. So, there. :p
It's like a Zolo, but about $60-80 less expensive, even with the sewing and imported fabric. It's also going to be long, like my Oopa Chambray. (Even a bit longer, probably coming to below my knee.) It will most likely take about a month to get it completed, as the brocade is coming from overseas, but I am sure it will be SO worth the wait.
I ordered this as the main fabric:
and this is the brocade lining:

I found an unbielievable deal of only $6.75 a yard on this fabric!!!
Ahh, so purdyful! When I get the fabric, I am sending it to Jan @ Sleeping Baby. I wanted to make sure of the fabric's condition, and make sure the colors mesh - so that's why I'm not sending it directly to her from the fabric sites. And, this is IT! The last carrier I am buying. At least, until we have baby # 2, and if baby #2 is a girl, well, all bets are off! I mean, I will HAVE to buy a pink silk Oopa, it's like, a requirement! :)
