Martha Stewart, I am not!

So, yeah... I am waiting for the tow truck. Again. Because I am a moron. Of course. Somehow I made the battery die in Jeff's car. I thought I was turning the lights OFF earlier when I was in the tunnel. But apparently, he has running lights, and I actually turned the headlights on by mistake. And his dingy-thing that alerts you to such things is inoperative. What the Hell? I also failed to mention that this morning, his car was filthy. And his registration expired in May, yet the tag was not put on until THIS MORNING! It's JULY, people! (He has one of those plate covers, so it's a pain to actually undo it.) AND the left blinker/brake light was out. And has been for a month, I'm told. ANd when I asked him if he's been using his hand signals, he laughed at me. Seriously! So, after he put the reg tag on, I took his car to the hand wash. I had them give it a thourough ass-scrubbing - $27.00 later + $3.00 tip, it's beautiful. THEN, I went to the auto parts store (using my hand signals at every left turn!) and found the replacement bulb. The lamp fitting would NOT come out... 15 minutes later, I use the screwdriver to pry it out, and then I fixed it. But, it won't go back into the little housing now.... oh well. At least now the blinker/brake light works.

So, it's a clean-assed, Armor-alled car with shampood floormats, and working brake/blinker lights. It even smells like Pina Colada. But, the battery is DEAD. Because I am a moron.

Anyway, after it became apparent that Jeff couldn't leave the office due to a deadline, I called USAA. They said it was going to be an hour. So, I did what any self-respecting domestic, yet slightly crazy woman would do. I started to bake something. So, my apartment is permeated with the scent of banana raisin muffins baking right now.

That, my friends, is a Good Thing.

Car trouble

My car has had this weird, intermittent problem... If it's been raining, or it's too hot, it won't start. I mean, it will, just not right away. Sometimes it starts after a few turns of the ignition... sometimes it's 50, 100. It's a crapshoot, really. It's been happening on and off for about a year...

We had the starter replaced, and it worked fine for a couple of months. Then it happened again. This time they had my car for like 3 days... and they couldn't get the thing NOT to start. How can they fix it without being able to duplicate the problem, right? Well, it's been HOT here lately. 80's-90s every day, which, if you live in Vegas, you're laughing at me. I know, two digits isn't hot, I'm a wussy California girl! But for us, it's HOT!

I took Travis to Farmer's Market yesterday. We parked on the roof of the parking garage... and we were gone for a few hours. When we came back, my car wouldn't start at all. Not after like a zillion times. And it was HOT! SO I opened the windows and doors, and called Jeff. He came and picked us up. We debated calling our insurance, because it was SO hot, we didn't feel like waiting.

So, I put Travis' car seat in Jeff's car. We went home, had some beer. Chilled out a bit. Then we went back a couple hours later, and tried to start my car. Nope, nada. Okay. We called the insurance company. They arranged for the tower to come.

The problem is that the parking garage only had less than 7 feet of clearance. And, so, long story short... with the help of tow truck guy, Jeff pushed my car, and I steered, and rolled, down the entire 4 stories of the garage. With Travis buckled up - sitting in the passenger seat next to me, happily pulling the credit cards from my wallet. Yep, I felt a little like Britney. At least he wasn't in my lap, right? ;)

Anyway... it's fixed now, and it was only the stupid starter relay. A $15.00 part. $90 in labor. Jeez. Why is it always the little things that cause the most aggrivation?

Weekend...

It's Monday! :) This weekend was nice, yet not terribly exciting. A lot of hanging out, kicking back as a cute little family... that was nice. :)

We went out to dinner with my dad on Friday @ Chili's. It was great, except for the part where Travis bitched and moaned, and cried. THE. ENTIRE. TIME. You would be correct in assuming I had a big-ass margarita to compensate.

Travis pulled that waking up at 4 am crap Saturday night (Sunday morning). Jeff got up with him, but I couldn't sleep, and took over, so at least one of us could rest. We watched some Tivo, and I messed around with some digi-scrapping. We finally went back to bed at 6:00 and slept until almost 9:30. Yay! I was really tired and a little cranky yesterday morning from that... but after a nice big breakfast, Italian omlettes with spinach, sausage, and english muffins - and lots of coffee... it was behind me.

We just vegged at home, did laundry, and my dad came over for a few hours. Then, around 4:30, we went out for a beach drive, and went to Asilomar Beach and let Travis run around. He sat down in the ocean, and got soaked! Cute boy!

Then, we came home, and after Jeff & The Boy showered. We had wine... and I made Red Wine Risotto, and Ritz Cracker chicken with canned green beans. How chic, and trashy, huh? ;)

Travis wouldn't touch any of it, although last time I made the risotto he loved it. Backup plan was Annie's White Cheddar shells with a jar of Gerber sweet potaoes & corn mixed in. He gobbled it up! I am so sneaky like that! heh.

Today is not as hot, and when Travis wakes up from his nap, I am getting us in the car, and taking a walk with him in the jogger. Going in search of lunch. Mmm... leftover risotto!

Baby lip....

I think today was in the cards to be lame. Travis woke up at 3:00 this morning... and didn't want to go back to sleep. We came out to the living room... I read to him, played some quiet music.... nothing worked. Finally, I just let him watch Zoboomafoo until he succumbed to sleep. Yup, at the lovely hour of 5:30am, just as you were all blissfully drooling into your pillows... we went back to bed. Bleh.

We got up at 11:00.... and I wanted to get out of the house ASAP... it's such a gorgeous day! (Again!) We finally got outta here noonish. I called Jeff to see if he wanted lunch... he was stuck working on a project. So, instead, Travis and I went out to eat by ourselves. We went to this American diner-ish place at the mall. Pretty good food, pretty inexpensive, etc.

After I ordered, I went to get a high chair... and it was all dangerous and wobbly. I told them about it... you know.... in case some other parent wasn't as vigilant, and trusted their dear child to that deathtrap chair. They finally found me another one from in the back... and then we sat down to eat. Travis would have none of it! He fussed, and backflipped, the whole toddler bit. Bleh, again.

So, I took him out of the chair, and sat him on my lap. More of the same shenanigans ensued. Finally, I gave up. I went to the front to ask for a to-go box. Travis spied some bananas they use for shakes, and was all like "NANA!" and with the sign and everything. I bought him a banana for a quarter, WHAT A DEAL! I was able to enjoy my lunch in realtive peace - save for him drumming on the plastic take-out box. Hey, lunch, and entertainment!

Afterwards, I wanted to go to the craft store. Basicaly we were wandering around the store, and he was happily playing with the Backyardigans beanies I gave him as a distraction. I had some Mickey stickers I was going to buy for him in the cart, and big-assed box of chunky Crayola washable crayons, etc. As I was looking at the 12x12 scrapbooks, he started getting antsy and fussy. Then BAM! Without warning, Travis did that tantruming toddler headbang thing right into the handle of the shopping cart. With his top lip. Blood started going everywhere. He was screaming, etc. I took a tissue out of my purse, and sat on the floor of Beverly's while he freaked out. I finally was able to tell that the blood was only coming from where his upper lip met the gum, and it was not a knocked out tooth, or anything seriously injurous.

I abandoned the cart post-haste, and tried to wrangle him into his carseat. Screaming, bleeding, swelling lip, 85+ degree vehicle. Yup, it was a pretty sight, I'm sure!

So we rushed home, literally 3 minutes away, and I tried to get an ice pack on his lip. He SCREAMED bloody murder. Okay, so maybe ice is not happening. His top lip was way puffy. :(
So, I called the pediatric office, and asked what to do.

She finally called me back, and she said ice (yeah right!) Tylenol (already there) and to watch him and make sure it's not pus-filled in a few days. Ick! Also, that it may turn black and blue. Poor thing! :(

Well, at least it wasn't right before our family pictures... that's happening in a couple of weeks, and he'll be good as new.

Crizzap & Scrizzap

It's been SO nice the last few days. Hot, and breezy.... just how I wish it were all the time! :) The Boy is entering hour 2 of his nap. It's FABULOUS! Normally, I'd be rushing evey few minutes to check his breathing. Okay, I've already done that. A lot.

But, I managed a shower with more than just a cursory shave. AND I used conditioner, and was able to actually wash it out of my hair. Completely. I know! Can ya belive it? :)

So, yeah. I also spent a good part of the morning on the phone with BLue*Cross. I hate those em-effers. Really, I do. They suck in the most suck-tastic way possible. My 36-month term with my $260 a month "Major Risk" insurance - due to my carpal-tunnel syndrome - is ending August 1st. They are disenrolling my arse at midnight on 8/1. BUT, I am GUARANTEED to have coverage on my own through Blue Cross. They HAVE to accept me because I completed the 36 month Major Risk insurance plan. Yay me!

But, it's getting late in the game, and I have heard jack from BC. WHen I called them, they told me I was accepted. Yay me again! But, since my BMI is still "too high" it's not $112 a month like I was quoted. Okay... what is it? $168.00 a month. Not horrible like $260, but not super-fantastic $112.00, either.

Then I asked if they had auto-debited the first month's premium from my checking account. Yes. But they took out $112. Not $168. Why?
Of course, they screwed up and enrolled me in the wrong plan, and I had to get that all straightened out. Yup. Lame ass Blue Cross. They signed me up for the $5k deductible instead of the $2,500 one. Super Duper Lame-asses.

BUT... if I can lose at least 28 more pounds and go to my doctor to document it, and keep it off for 6 months, they will re-evaluate me for a rate decrease. Hmm. We'll see. The way I look at it, if I lose a pound a week - that will mean 6 more months. That's going to be a year or so total, and I may very well be preggo again before that happens. Sigh.

Anyway... I did another digi-scrap layout last night.

I wanna EAT him up! :)
This one took a lot less time than the first one. Yay!
Uh, oh... I'm feeling an addiction coming on. Good thing I already have 2 gigs of freebies I've been downloading since last year. Otherwise I'd be getting worried about our account balance! ;)

La La La...

Today was nice... we woke up WAY too early... Jeff had stupid Jury Duty. And I made scrambled eggs with American cheese. Travis refused to eat, although usually he shovels breakfast like a fiend.

We played, and he watched some shows... then we dozed on the ouch for a bit. I got up and played around with the new version of Photoshop we just installed yesterday. Travis napped for awhile longer... THANK YOU JESUS! :)

I am FINALLY getting around to starting with my digital scrapbooking (AKA digi-scrapping). I made my first layout today (from a kit, but I made some of my own elements, and I love the way it finally came out!) Being my first attempt, and that I'm still not 100% (okay, not even 75%) with PS... I'm sure subsequent things will take less time.

Anyway... we finally made it out of the house around 3:00. We went to our outdoor mall, and walked around... we shared a Cold Stone Banana Split Descision (sans chocolate, or nuts, adding caramel instead) and later I had a Non Fat Iced Caramel Macchiato. (Holli, the "Caramel Police" are gonna come after me, too!) :)

I bought a new pair of sandals, and just browsed for a bit. Travis was SO good! :) I'm really glad he was, too... 'cause if we have another week like last week... I swear, I'm gonna eBay the kid!

Jeezus!

Every time I go out, I cannot escape this disturbing new trend. A little baby (from newborn-8 months or so) is asleep in the infant seat in the stroller. The 2-4 year old sibling of said baby is SITTING ABOVE THEM ON THE HANDLEBAR/CUPHOLDER area of the stroller while their dumbshit mother is pushing them. I actually said quite loudly today at Farmer's Market, as we passed one of these ass-tards "THAT'S NOT SAFE!" She looked at me blankly, like she had no fucking clue what I was talking about. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???! Either get a double stroller, or one with a stand-board, or make your older kid walk!! Seriously, it's not that hard to understand!!

Countdown to the Terrible Twos....

The Boy has an obsession.... pushing buttons. Day in and day out... The doorbell, the cd player, the buttons on the dvd player - and the TiVo, and the cable box, etc, ad infinitum...)

As a matter of fact, I took him to the Children's Museum today, and he spent a good chunk of time going up and down the stairs of the play build-a-house, and hitting the doorbell button... much to the chagrin of everyone else. (Me included!) Here's photographic evidence of such:

As irritating as Travis' button-pushing fetish can be...
it takes every fiber of my being not to bust out in laughter when he's caught red-handed. You see, my son was born with that innate, and hysterical instinct. You know the one, right?

Whenever I catch him opening the dvd player, and inserting a CD/DVD of unknown origin, he freaks out, has a look of unmistakable guilt flicker across his face, and in the same swift motion freaks out and flings said CD/DVD and hits the close button on the player. At 20 months. It's simultaneously freaking adorable, and unspeakably annoying. Yup. I am in for it. The terrible twos are here to stay. I have a feeling it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

What a difference...

A year makes, huh?

Stuffy & Fluffy!

The 4th was nice... we hung out with friends, and watched the fireworks on the beach. Travis was terrified at first, but reluctantly came around 10 minutes or so into it. I had to cover his ears, cause the BOOM was freaking him out.

In other news, Jeff and I have a crappy head cold. It seriously sucks. My nose is all chapped, and I feel like my head might explode at any moment.

Monday, we got our visit from the cloth diaper service. We like it so far. He hasn't had a poop in them yet, so we'll see. I'm waiting for my Snappis to come in, and hopefully that will help with the drooping. :) My covers I ordered came in Monday, so that was great timing! I got a couple of Proraps, and a cool WAHM black one with fleece lining and cute recing flag tabs. That one's my favorite so far. So, I'm bidding on some Bummis covers on eBay right noww, and trying to restrain myself from ordering any more from SnootyBootyDiapers.com. But I think these will win out in the end! ;)

Here are some cute cloth booty pics from this morning!

He was transfixed by Zoboomafoo. He actually tries to say it now. It comes out like "boomfoo" CUTE! :)
I made Travis Mickey ("dickey") pancakes this morning. It's ALL about the mouse these days!! Obsess much? I made the wholegrain mix I buy in the bulk section @ Whole Paycheck. Then I put it into a squeeze bottle, and drew a Mickey head. I also did some "T" letter pancakes too. He loved them! :)
