| Hell Hath No Fury.... |
Like a cranky momma who goes to pick up her Rx for a medication prescribed by a doctor who came into the room as I was nursing - and to find out it isn't safe to take while breastfeeding. It's an L3, and also a Narcotic!
(An L3 is a Lactation Risk Catagory 3... meaning it's only "Moderately Safe" to use while nursing. These catagory drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the infant.) Okay, all that, it's annoying, but I'm sure it happens...
That's why I read that little packet that comes with prescriptions religiously. What really got me going was the smarmy "Pharmacy Assistant" Bitch who thought it was her place to point out (after asking how old The Boy was) that "He can eat solid foods at his age, you can just stop nursing while taking this."
Oh, hell no uh, uh, she di'nt. I let her have it. "It's not appropriate that you tell me to change my lifestyle in order to accommodate taking a medication! It is the prescribing doctor's responsibility to make sure this medication is safe to prescribe to me. He knows I am nursing. My son is sick, also, and not eating well. But he will nurse. And I will not "just stop nursing" him simply because you have the audacity to make that rediculous suggestion." I was not discreet with my volume or my tone. She slunk away, obviously embarrassed, but without another word.
Whew! It was the first time I had to just let myself go off on a stream-of conciousness breastfeeding rant. And to make it worse, since I'd already paid for the Rx, I had to demand a refund from the Pharmacy manager. Don't fuck with me today, people... I'm serious. I'm. Not. In. The. Mood. |

| Crappy. (heh) |
Went to the Doc this morning at 8:00 am... he thinks we have some sort of virus... The Boy is doing a little better than myself, though... he prescribed something for me for the Persistent Frequent Liquidity... but the pharmacy wasn't open yet... we'll go back out after Travis' nap. I'm going to attack our bathroom with a bleach bomb once this is all over... yikes!
I have lost nearly 4 pounds in 1 day. I am sure I'll gain it back once I start, you know, eating again... but wow, it was nice to see that lower number on the scale even though, obviously, I would rather it be from the dieting and not the bathrooming. Bleh.
Also, I need to throw all our bedding in the wash soon... can't be good, germy infested stuff.

| Boobs 'n stuff |
Lately, Travis' favorite TiVo-d show is Zoboomafoo.
It's a little spastic, but engaging and educational. It's what is allowing me to make breakfast, load the dishwasher, and blog this morning.
Last night I went to a Gentle Weaning class at our Parent's Place. It was very enlightening... I took the "Mothering Your Nursing Toddler" one a few weeks ago... it's emotional even thinking about the "W" word... but within the next few months I'm going to begin the process. I really want to be done BF before he's 2, if possible... because we want to start trying for baby #2 around then. Tandem nursing... it's not for everyone.... don't think it's for me. Plus, when I was pregnant my boobs were SO sore, I can't imagine actually nursing while PG.
Gotta go, our steel-cut oatmeal is ready! |

| 'Cause That's How I Roll! |
Well... it pays to be patient cheap... but yeah, whatever. Remember this incident? And the estimate to fix my car was like, $2k? Well, it appears that Clueless Bitch wasn't insured on that vehicle after all.... and I got a call today saying that my insurance is going to submit the claim via my uninsured motorist coverage to fix my dented-ass door. Finally. Ahh...
So, even though the dented (and now rusted) door has a certain air of Ghetto-Fabulousness to it.... giving me an "edgy" look as I drive around town to our Playgroups, and Starbucks, well, the thought of my cute little Neon finally being fixed, FOR FREE is just making me SO happy!! :) Plus, I'm sure I'll get a cool rental car to thrash drive for the week and change it's in the shop! |

| Double Trouble! |
I unexpectedly found myself babysitting for DH's biz partner's rugrat this morning. He is 1 1/2 months younger than Travis, but 80 times crazier... He has a 6 year old brother, so go figure. The kid was running all over my apartment, and causing all kinds of trouble.
I had already planned to take Travis to 123, Sing With Me, so I brought them both. Wow. The logistics of that are baffling. Load Travis into sling, hold Andrew's hand while locking our front door. Did I mention the 2 diaperbags over my shoulder? Keep Andrew from falling down 15 stairs in the process. Then, hoist Andrew up on opposite hip from Travis, and walk down aforementioned Perilous 15 Stairs. Then, put A down at the carport, and keep him from wandering off while I unlock the car, and open the door. Strap A into carseat 3/4 of the way while Travis protests from the sling. Unlock other side of car, and wrangle Travis into his carseat. Close door, and conclude clicking last buckle on A's carseat. Whew!
The unload was exactly the same, only somewhat easier. Having them coralled in a safe area once we got to the class was nice... but wow... twins would suck! I would much rather do a toddler/newborn combo over 2 toddlers, any day. Those of you that deal with this very dynamic daily... well you have my undying respect! |

| Just truckin' along... |
Hello! Just sneaking online while The Boy takes a short (I'm sure!) nap. We just got back from our Mom's Group a little while ago... it was fun, as per usual. Not much exciting going on...
I really am getting the itch to move, though. I love the location of our apartment... but I really, REALLY want my own washer & dryer again, and a house has so much more room... sigh. ALso, a ton more $$ than apartment living... but we'll look around to see what's out there.
The Boy is nearly standing unassisted, but not yet. He pulls himself up on everything, but he doesn't think he can stand alone yet... sigh. He's a little late, this one... but I'm not too worried about it. I hope he starts walking soon, though! :)
I am doing well on the weight loss front... walking a couple of times a week with one of the other Moxie Moms and her little one. He's 4 months younger than Travis, but HUGE! Like already outweighs him by at least 7 pounds. So, that's good... I need to get my hair cut this weekend, and then I will color it at home...
We've been talking about planning a trip out to New Hampshire to visit Jeff's dad maybe in May over Memorial Weekend/Week. It's only $300 something each to fly, and we don't have to pay for Travis, since he will be still under 2 and on my lap... I know, "Meat Missile, etc... but whatever. If the plane goes down, we're all going down.
Jeff was off Monday, and it was nice to just hang out together without family obligations, like on Saturday, and Sunday.
So, yeah... that's about it... mostly nothing too exciting... but just living life, and enjoying our time together... however short it feels.
Well, The Boy is awake now, and wants his Milkies... later!

| OH CRAP! |
This morning, The Boy and I took a shower. I got a water sling from the For Sale or Trade board on TBW.... it was nice, we both got clean, and I didn't have to worry I was gonna drop his slippery little butt.
Afterwards, I bundled him in a towel. went to put a diaper on him, when I realized that there was no left tab on the diaper.... YET againn! Damn Pampers! I swear, the last two packages I've bought have had issues. So, I put him in another diaper, and place him on our bedroom floor, while I go in search of the telephone, and jeans for him.
I was in the middle of talking to the lady from Pampers getting my replacement coupon for the f-ed up diapers. I walked into our bedroom doorway, and the smell hit me like a ton of bricks. Oh, no.... Oh, yes! The blow-out from hell. All over his (formerly) clean body, and all over our (formerly) clean carpet.
So, I threw a towel down, and got to work. All the while, talking to the Pampers beotch. She sad she needed a number that was stamped on the waistband of the diapee. Um, no, there isn't a number anywhere to be found. In between all this I've gone through every wipe in the box, and the kid is still not clean.
I finish up with her, and get The Boy onto his changing table, where I break into a new package of wipes, and go to town. Finally he's clean again.
I survey the damage to my carpet. I see that there are bright yellow splotches over about a 3 foot radius. Damn it! Then, it dawned on me that I still had my friend's Bissell Steamer that I borrowed at Christmas.... Thank God! Now my carpet is good as new. Talk about a shitty morning. At least it's got nowhere to go but up from here. I hope. |

| My crazy Valentine... |
The Boy fell down and hurt himself today. :(
About an hour ago, I was checking my email. Travis came up to me and started to cruise the desk, and my knee. He let go, and fell and hit the outer corner of his left eye on the bottom edge of the desk. He freaked out, and so did I. He's mostly okay, though. At first I thought he hit his head, because of the THUD sound. He started shreiking in pain, and I nursed him, and settled him down after awhile. I realized the outer edge of his eylid looked abraded, and then his eyelid started to swell. I called the Ped, who said he was fine, but warned me that tomorrow he will look like someone punched him in the eye. Poor little man! NOw, he's watching the Backyardigans, and shoveling vanilla Yogurt Burst Cheerios into his mouth as fast as he can. Sigh. |

| A Boy and His Tomato: A Love Story. |
Last weekend we were picking up some produce at Whole Paycheck. It was the typical scene... cute little family goes to the cute little over-priced market and spends $17.00 on basil, and baby yogurt, and other assorted things....
Well, we were going through and I was busy getting brown basmati rice, and multi-grain pancake mix out of the bulk bins. I realize Jeff is sneaking The Boy "samples" of the Organic Animal Cookies... heh. Then I realize something else. Travis has a tomato in his hands. An underripe, roma, to be exact. Hmm.
"Did you give that to him?" I ask my husband, who realizes I've caught him pilfering $85/lb baby snacks. He sheepishly smiles and says "Yeah, but I waited until the lady that works here wasn't looking."
"No," I said... "That, did you give him that tomato?"
He realizes what I'm referring to, and says "No, I guess he just grabbed it while I wasn't looking."
We both watched our son, gloriously happy with snagging this tomato. The yellowish-red orb, the cool smooth skin, he licked it happily.
"Um, okay.... we'll let him have it. But we already have grape tomatoes in our basket. When we get to the front, we'll distract him, and let them have it back."
Yeah, right, mom.
When we got to the front I tried the old giving him mommy's water bottle trick. Works every time. Except, when it doesn't.
High-pitched wailing ensues, and the clerk barely had enough time to ring it up before he erupted into a full-blown fit. A tantrum. Over a tomato. So, we bought it, yes we did... the organic pesticide-free quasi-fruit set us back $.75. Well, it was worth it, because I had my camera in the car. I mean, as an adult, can you buy complete happiness like this, for any price?

| Thirteen Things about My sweet boy!
1. He is the cutest, sweetest baby, ever!
2. He HATES having his diaper changed.
3. He loves showers, but hates baths.
4. He is left-boobed. Meaning he will ONLY nurse from the right side under duress. I am SO lopsided, it's not even funny!
5. He loves to have his teeth brushed.
6. He LOVES tortellini with parmaesan and butter. A LOT!
7. The only way he will fall asleep is by being nursed. Or, sometimes riding in the car, but not very often.
8. He's obsessed with the TiVo remote, drawers, the bathroom, the dishwaher, and dvds. He will close the swinging baby gate that barricades off the kitchen whenever it's left open.
9. He loves Annie's Graham bunnies, Ritz cracker dinosaurs, and Cheerios.
10. His favorite breakfast at a restaurant is pancakes. Mostly, it's breakfast at home... Yo Baby yogurt or oatmeal.
11. He loves his Mega Bloks, and his assortment of play balls Also, his Alien Head shaker egg.
12. He knows the baby signs for: milk, bird, fish, "all done", diaper change, more, water, up, down, and book
13. He's the cutest baby ever... see?
I told you! :)

| Traumatized! |
Poor little man! The doc visit was traumatizing. For us both. Bleh. He's only 22 lbs, 9 oz. He's only gained a pound in 3 months. But, I was told it's normal cause he's moving around so much.
I talked to the doc about my concerns... ie: not standing unassisted, and not walking at all. He cruises furniture a little, but that's it.
I was assured that he's normal, especially since he does everything else he should be doing at this stage.
He screamed during the eyes, ears, and throat check. He screamed during the shots, he screamed and screamed.... oh my, did he ever scream! I nursed him right after, and it calmed him down.
He had 3 shots, all in his arms. I was more than a little annoyed to find out AFTER THEY WERE GIVEN that one of the combo-vax was the varicella (chicken pox) vax. I was not planning on having him take that vaccine. Sigh. Oh well, hopefully it will be okay.
After his appt., we went to the mall. I bought Travis some Pretzel Bites with Cinnamon and Sugar to show him I love him and the doctor visit wasn't a punishment.
He's a nursing machine today! I mean, he always is, but especially today. |

| 15 month check-up. |
Sigh... gotta go in about 15 minutes... Baby Boy has his 15 month check up. With Shots. :( Poor thing!
He's also got this rash around his "hiney hole" (Thanks Mama C-ta for that term, LOL! I have tried Desitin, Butt Paste, Lansinoh, everything.... and it's still been there for a week. So, guess I'll have the ol' doc look at that too.
I am sick with a cold again. It started Monday. Still no signs of Travis getting it. It sucks, though. Sore throat, headache, runny/stuffy nose, a little cough and sneezing. Bleh. Well, it seems if I get it first, The Boy is usually spared. Hooray for breastfeeding antibodies!
Fuck. I just heard him in his room. He just coughed, and then sneezed. |

| Thirteen Things about T.J's Mommy
1. I don't know how to parallel park.
2. I can spend dangerous amounts of money at Borders Books on books for The Boy.
3. I did just this last night. We bought: Snuggle Puppy, The Backyardigans Royal Valentine (for T.J.'s Valentine's Basket), and also Baby Einstein's Language Nursery, My First Spanish Word Board Book, and The Backyardigans Jungle Colors.
4. I thought I was a patient person B.C. (before children) Now, I know it's something I need to work at. Daily.
5. Sometimes I feel like little more than a diaper changer who just happens to also be a human milk dispenser.
6. I've never felt like I was exceptionally talented at any one thing.
7. I am a damned good cook, though!
8. I can also put a candle out from across the room. With my boob. Now that's talent!
9. When I'm really stressed, I revert to biting my nails - I did this compulsively as a child.
10. Yesterday I totally cheated on my diet - really for the first time. After not having ice cream for over a month, and sugar for 3 weeks... The Boy and I shared a "Loves It" Coldstone Cheesecake Fantasy... Cheesecake Ice Cream, Graham Cracker Pie Crust, Blueberries & Strawberries.
11. In my defense: it had fruit in it, the cranky teething Boy hadn't had a nap all day, I had inadvertantly skipped lunch, and we also walked 2 miles beforehand.
12. He and I loved it.
13. It was totally worth it.
