Thirteen Things about T.J.'s Mommy

1. I am obsessed with bath and body stuff that smells good.

2. I look at the toilet paper after I wipe.

3. I envy people who are pulled together.

4. Those people also piss me off.

5. My kitchen sink is full of dishes right now. My bathroom is discusting. I did laundry this morning. All of the clean clothes are unfolded on my bed.

6. I need to change my sheets. My car is a mess. Don't even get me started about my closets....

7. If I could afford it, I would totally have a maid. I am often unmotivated and lazy when it comes to housework. This comes from being my mother's personal Cinderella throughout my childhood and teen years. Now I have an adversion to cleaning. I love when things are clean, though.

8. I don't remember to feed our fish every day. If it weren't for DH, they would most likely be dead.

9. I don't have a single live plant in my house. I have a black thumb. Seriously, I would kill silk plants.

10. Ever since my baby was born, I can't remember to take my vitamins.

11. I need to take better care of myself.

12. I have grey hair. I bought hairdye many, many months ago, and haven't had the time to use it.

13. I am a great mom, so hopefully that makes up for all the other stuff!

We went to the Mommy & Me singing class @ our Mom's Group at 10:30 for an hour yesterday, and then I went to the Bucks drive-through 'cause Travis zonked out in his carseat. I filled up the car with gas... $2.45/gallon!! Then I drove to the beach and listened to some of my Pod Casts with the car running so The Boy would actually STAY asleep.

Afterwards, I drove the scenic ocean route through Pacific Grove and the free part of 17 Mile Drive.

I had my "annual" cooter exam appointment to go to. By then, I only had 15 minutes before my Gyn appt, and I had to PEE! So, I went to their office and checked in, and then finally was able to relieve my bladder. I actually peed while Travis was in the sling because I was NOT going to put him down on the floor in there, no way!

It occured to me that I hadn't used the bathroom there, ever without peeing in the cup for a specimin. That struck me as funny for some reason, I dunno why. You know, the actual appointment wasn't all that bad. Well, parts of it were more than a little unpleasant. It's all fun and games until someone sticks a finger up your butt. What the hell is up with that?!

Doc and I chatted about the baby, and thankfully, my favorite nurse held him while the actual "deed" was being done.

I mentioned that I have had zero sex drive since the baby was born. He assured me that yes, it's completely normal with nursing, and it's just something people don't talk about at parties. He mentioned there used to be a testosterone patch for women, but they took it off the market. So, there's basically nothing I can do about it... Yeah, whatever... that really eases my mind. Not.
So, yeah. That's that.

Then we went to the park with some other moms from our group, but it was freezing so we only stayed about an hour. I did manage to give myself blisters by walking the three blocks to the park in my sandals...

We went out to dinner, and The Boy was teethy, cranky, etc. I was snippy because the baby was stressing me out... and had been for like the last few days. Then Jeff's cell phone rang, work stuff, then right before our food got there his mom called. So, the first half of being in the restaurant was kinda lame. After our food arrived it was much more pleasant, and it was really good. I had Chicken Castroville in an artichoke cream sauce, and broccoli and carrots - no rice, they only had white.

Today, I dunno what we'll do. I was going to check out the Stroller Strides class, but then it started raining. I ran into an old acquaintance from Jr. High & High School a few months ago, and she called me last week wanting to have lunch today. We'll see if that still happens. She was really annoying back in the day, and hopefully she isn't still that way.

Yummy!
We went to Farmer's Market today. We bought acorn squash, new garlic, and flowers. My whole apartment smells like Narcissus. I just loove the smell! I'm going to venture out to Carmel Valley soon and go out to the fields where you can pick your own bunches of flowers. It really felt like spring here today... the cherry trees are blooming.

Changing sizes
Today I go get fitted for my bridesmaid dress. My friend is getting married in June. I hope they will have to take in the dress a LOT by then! :)

It's pretty, at least, although the model - of course - is a skinny beotch....

So, my "smaller" jeans I just bought two weeks ago are starting to get looser on me. They are a size 18. Ugh. I hate typing that. 18. I was a size 2 at one point in HS, but I had an eating disorder then. That was unhealthy, obviously... When I got married I was a 12. I can live with a 12. I was "healthy looking" and I could pretty much shop anywhere I wanted to. An 8 sounds better, though.... a nice single digit... sigh... I'll be the same person, of course, there will just be less of me!

Lucky momma
Dude... this whole eating well thing... it's working! Almost too well, though! Down 2 more pounds since yesterday! So, today, I had two slices of whole wheat toast with 2 tbs. of peanut butter on 1 and Sugar Free trawberry jam on the other with unsweetened green tea for breakfast. I had a repeat of yesterday's chicken balsamic goat cheese salad for lunch and a grande Sugar Free Soy Vanilla Latte from Bucks with one of the moms from my Mom's Group. I also just had a Sugar Free pudding cup. I used a plastic fork, cause all our spoons are dirty... I plan on having a bigger dinner tonight than last night. My biggest fear is that the weight will come off too fast and mess up my milk supply. Also had some Mother's Milk tea last night, and will have some tonight, just to be safe.

Anyway, enough of all that! The mom I had coffee with is 41, and had her baby a few weeks before T.J. was born. She went through ovarian failure, which basically started early-monopausal symptoms. Like at 25. Wacky! But, because she was on the Pill, she didn't know it because she always got her period, thanks to the estrogen in the Pill. So, when she and hubby hadn't conceived after a couple of years of trying, she went to one fertility specialist after another. Only after years and going through her old medical records of bloodwork from when she was hospitalized for pneumonia in her 20s did they realize her issues. How lame! But happy ending, they had IVF using an anonymous donor egg, and their little boy is adorable!

But, it makes me realize, once again, how lucky we are to have our little man. Even though he nurses like a fiend, and won't let me sleep past 7am this week, and my house is wreaked (damn dishwasher people better be here tomorrow!) I would't trade it for the world.

Stuff 'n Things
I am officially a high-school graduate! :) I got my "actual diploma" today! AND a 2005 tassel. Travis just loved that! Better 10 years late than never... I actally finished everything in July, but for some reason the diploma paper was on backorder 'til now.

Went to Mom's Group today... got many complements on my Lucky Baby Sling.

The topic we were talking about today is the Effects of Television on Babies... all about the AAP reccommendation, zero TV before age 2, and how it makes their tiny brains turn to mush, etc... lalalala... Everything in moderation - INCLUDING moderation... that's what we say in this house!

Speaking of, my mom and I enjoyed a nice lunch yesterday on the Wharf. I had a Cajun-grilled salmon over mixed greens with a raspberry vinaigrette. Yummy! And totally Sonoma-friendly!

Today I had a HUGE grilled chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette and a tiny bit of goat cheese sprinkled throughout. SO good! :)

The Jambalaya was a huge success last night as well... I did "cheat" by making jasmine rice instead of brown. Hubby's been so great about this new way of eating, so I knew it would make him happy. I figured, 1 day out of 5, jasmine rice is not gonna kill us! I had very little rice anyway. I also had a Sugar-free soy vanilla latte at Bucks yesterday. It was suprisingly yummy! :) Need to make sure I am eating enough protein, dairy, etc.... since I am nursing Travis so much still! I have had a carb serving at lunch most days, and dairy at dinner (glass of milk)- I don't want my milk supply to suffer! I weighed myself after my shower this morning... 1 more pound down! Unbelievable! I am working on another blog for the Sonoma Plan recipes I have tried. I will let you all know the link when it's up and running.

Going to the Chiropractor in a bit. My neck will thank me, I'm sure!

3 down... lots to go!
I stepped on the scale this morning... for the first time since New Year's.... what did I see? :)

So, 3 more pounds down! Woo hoo! Between starting Sonoma on Sunday, more walking with the jogger, etc... yay! Also, something strange... this is in spite of old "Aunt Scarlet" visiting right now. So it is possible it's even more than that down!

I did get a Starbucks Light Caramel Frap, without the whipped cream yesterday. It's not on plan, but it's got Splenda in it, so at least it's not all that sugar and fat like my normal Bucks Frap, or Cinnamon Dulce Latte (3xs a week) You gotta start somewhere, right? :) Also had a Sugar Free Frozen chocolate Pudding cup while we watched 24 last night. Hubby had chocolate cookies and many Guinness (Guinni?) with James. So, yeah...gotta start somewhere!

Sunday I made this kick-ass pork roast for dinner with roasted peppers, onions, fennel, broccoli, garlic, etc. and brown rice for dinner.

Had some leftover pork and veggies in a wrap yesterday for lunch. I had red pepper strips, and celery with Laughing Cow Light cheese for snacks.

I had Kashi Go Lean for breakfast yesterday and today. Also made Chicken with Mushrooms & Wine Sauce and brown rice last night, and carrots (not on plan for this week, but bite me, I'm nursing a boob-addict!) Lunch today will be leftover Chicken from last night, probably in a wrap.

Tonight I am making Jambalya Style Chicken and Shrimp in the slow-cooker. So, I assure you, I AM eating! It's super-yummy! :)

Sonoma bound...
So, I've decided to try the Sonoma Diet, starting this week coming up. I will have to modify it, of course, because I am still nursing... but this "diet" will work out to more food than I usually eat in a day anyway! And, supposidly I will be able to lose weight! How that works, I don't know... Anyway... it's basically lots of veggies, fruits (after the 1st 10 days... but honestly, I don't eat fruit this time of year as often as I should... so sadly, it's probably been 10 days, or even more...) whole grains, lowfat dairy, lean meats, etc. No white sugar, flour, or potatoes. 3 meals, and 3 snacks a day. Lots of water, green tea, moderate portions, and exercise. No counting Points, either! :) Nothing sounds too crazy... so we'll see how it works out.... I love to cook, and the recipes look really yummy. Jeff is even up for trying it with me, which will make it a lot easier. Actually, I joined their website yesterday for the free week trial, and I saved a ton of recipes. I will cancel their website next week, cause I'm not all about the message boards, which suck - by the way... I can weigh myself, and choose my own "meal plans" without paying $5.00 a week... thankyouverymuch!

Veg Soup
So, when you're feeling under the weather... nothing sounds as good as some hot soup. Sadly, our cabinets were barren of this essential sickie-day element. Never fear! Thanks to my Everyday Food Magazine and the fact that I went to the Farmer's Market last night, I am making this quick recipe right now. I doubled it, and since I thought it would be tastier with chicken broth instead of plain old water, that's what I'm using. I also threw in some baby spinach and used mini rigatoni, and stewed italian-style tomatoes since that's what I had in the cabinet. I was heavy-handed (as always) with the garlic, and other seasonings, as well. Hopefully it will taste as good as it smells!

Quick Vegetable Soup

Serves 2; Prep time: 20 minutes; Total time: 20 minutes

2 teaspoons olive oil

1 garlic clove, minced

1 can (14.5 ounces) stewed tomatoes in juice

1/2 cup ditalini (or other short tubular pasta)

5 ounces frozen cauliflower (half a 10-ounce package)

1 medium zucchini, quartered lengthwise and cut crosswise into 1/2-inch pieces

1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

Coarse salt and ground pepper

1. In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium. Add garlic and cook, stirring until fragrant, 1 minute. Add tomatoes with juice and 2 cups water; bring to a boil. Add pasta and boil 5 minutes; stir in cauliflower, zucchini, and thyme. Season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat; simmer 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Serve.

Per serving: 280 calories; 5.8 grams fat; 10.1 grams protein; 51 grams carbohydrates; 6.5 grams fiber

Note: To make ahead, cool soup completely before dividing between two airtight containers; refrigerate up to overnight. Reheat over low. Add water as needed to adjust consistency.

Sick mommy....teethy baby
Mommy body aches, plus sore throat, runny nose, stuffy head... plus a screamy, teethy toddler... they truely don't mix! Hitting the Airborne and the Zicam, but it doesn't bode well... poor me. Hopefully the super boobie juice will keep Travis from getting it... bleh. He's got three teeth - including a molar - all at the cusp of breaking through, simultaneously... poor him, too. On another note.... anyone seen Miss Spider's Sunny Patch? We've just started to TiVo it for Travis. Bounce is my favorite character. Don't get me wrong.... I detest bugs. I never miss a chance to kill ants when they invade my home, or commit arachnid-cide... but still, it's a pretty cute show.

My new love!
I can't believe I got THIS today for $270 after tax... just $10.00 less than a 6 month membership to my local gym! I LOVE it already!! :) Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of my hating to exercise, and being a chubby mommy! Yummy Mummy here I come! (yeah, whatever...)

Also, I am going to the chiro today... my neck has been KILLING me for days!

Yesterday we went to a S.J. mall to meet MIL and FIL to have lunch and hang out. It was pleasant (as usual!) except for that little part where Travis started choking on a cracker at the Cheesecake Factory during lunch. He started coughing at first, and I was watching him, thinking as long as he could cough, he was fine. In an instant he stopped coughing and turned bright red! Jeff, me and MIL ALL tried to get the buckle on the high chair undone, but it was stuck! Jeff had the brillant idea of turning the whole chair sideways, so I could whack the poor boy between his shoulder blades. That dislodged the cracker, and besides freaking us all out (Travis included!) no onme was worse for wear. Amazingly, the whole scene took mere seconds, and was executed with surgical prescision. Note to self: ALWAYS bring the Boy's Floppy Seat into restaurants, you know the buckles on that thing fly open in an instant when needed!

Poor Travis was miserable after we got home from hanging out with the ILs last night. :( His teeth hurt, he didn't want to eat dinner, and it hrt him to even nurse! We tried giving him a popsicle, but he just screamed in protest.

Eventually, we got him sufficently calmed down (read: drugged with Tylenol) enough to lie down and nurse until he fell asleep around 11:30 last night. He wanted to nurse ALL NIGHT, though... so my body feels like I was hit by a truck today.

Oh well... he's definately worth it! :)

2006... WTF?
Happy New Year, everyone. 2006?! When the hell did that happen?! It feels like the odometer turning over in my car, or something... yikes! That means Travis will turn 2 this year!! I will be 29, and Jeff is turning 30! That's just not possible... nope, not at all! Especially since we've been together since I was 17. Fucks with the mind, it does!
