Turkey Smackdown 2005!

So, I'm cooking turkey for us and our friend James tonight. Then, tomorrow we go to Jeff's family's (Grandma with uncles, and cousins) for dinner, and the day after, we go to my in-laws for the day, and then we pick up Jeff's dad at the airport Friday night. Whew!
As long as his Grandmother steps off about me "still" nursing the boy, no one gets hurt. Seriously. She actually had the audacity while we were at Jeff's mom's for T's b-day to tell me "I want you to stop nursing him now." I replied "I want to win a million dollars in the lottery, but that's doubtful, too." Hehe.

Sometimes people - yes, even family just need to mind their own beeswax. She's still bothered by the fact that we co-sleep and I still wear Travis in the slings. She needs to Deal. With. It.

I say... it's none of anyone's concern as long as the baby is happy and healthy... that should be all that really matters. So there. Neh. :p

The least I could do...

So, I had to venture out with the Enfaddler this morning for some errands. No small feat, considering his 2nd molar (top right one) came through yesterday. He's been (understandably so...) SUPER cranky! Poor thing! His grand total now is 10 teeth! SO crazy!

We had to go to the City Parking Division office... I needed to get a Residential Parking sticker for my car, and some Guest Parking Permits for the holidays. They've been paving our parking lot at our apartments for the last week, so I've been parking on the street.

I got my tire chalked yesterday, but thank goodness I didn't get a ticket. We also had to go by our Property Management office to get a copy of our lease agreement, so I could prove I live here. Bleh. But, I also found out that for a mere $10.00 "administrative fee" I get a neat decal that allows me to park in any City Garage for 2 hours FREE! Woohoo! Meaning, that when we go to the Aquarium, I won't have to pay for Cannery Row metered parking anymore! Woohoo!

Afterwards, we went to Starbucks where I treated myself to an Eggnog Frappucino. (Who am I kidding...my 3rd Frappucino this week!) While we were waiting in line, three uniformed Military people came in behind us - a girl (Airforce, I think?) and two Army guys.

There was a little bit of a traffic jam waiting to get rung up, so they started to order before I paid. The girl ordered a Grande Iced Coffee, and one of the guys ordered a Grande Coffee with a shot of espresso. I don't think the other guy ordered anything. Anyway, I had my Starbucks card, and asked Barista Dude if I could put $5.00 toward the Military people's coffee. He said sure, and held my card for a few minutes to total them up. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the girl try to pay for both coffees, while Army dude get his wallet out and started to pay for them both. The Barista Dude says, "You can put your money away, your coffee has already been taken care of."

The girl said "Why? By who?" She sounded bewildered. The Barista dude pointed over to me and Travis and said "By them."
The girl looked over at us, still a bit confused. "Thank you, so much" she said emfatically, and smiled the biggest smile at us. The other guy came up, cup in hand, and said "Thank you, that was so kind of you." He looked like he was welling up a little bit. I said "Thank you for all you do to keep us safe!" How sweet of them to thank ME, when they are the ones who do so much for us!

A small gesture, sure, but it seemed to have a tremendous impact on them. I heart our military, they rock ass!

Bleh.

So lately, I've been having this problem. And by lately, I mean for roughly the last year... I can't get anything done! And, I'm always tired, even though I get enough sleep. What's up with that?! :)

Oh, let's see... I don't eat the right stuff, forget to take my vitamins, and don't drink enough water. And, I don't exercise. Yup! That's about it!

Seriously, with the munchkin being munchkinish all day, it's impossible to do anything around the house. Sigh. Also, we have Jeff's dad coming in next Friday for a few days. It's so weird, I've never met him in the 11 years we've been together. He's not staying here, but I still need to CLEAN the house and shampoo the carpets- badly! Don't know how it's going to happen, though... Unless I spend all of this weekend doing it. Which will, of course, suck balls.

Ugh.

Also, I just realized I left my Rescue Remedy at my mother-in-law's this last weekend. Yay.

Rain, rain, go away....

Sigh. It's been raining here all day, thwarting any plans to actually get outside. Bleh. The sun might be starting to come out now, but the storm clouds are still looming. Maybe I should pull my unwashed hair into a ponytail, bundle the boy up and go to Starbucks. MMM. Caramel Apple Cider would be good right about now. Plus, he's been bored and whiny today... So, I think that's what we need to do, yup!

How do you like the new fall bloggy digs? I likes!

In just one year....

In just one year I've learned....

How to love someone more than I ever imagined would be possible.

That patience is A LOT harder than you'd think it was. Especially after no sleep, and no personal time, no shower, lack of food, water, and exercise. :)

Mommyhood is the hardest and most rewarding job I will ever have.

Tiny people can make the hugest messes imaginable.

Nursing an infant is a full time job.

Choosing battles is very important. Not just with kids, but well-meaning family members also.

Everyone out there has an opinion. Most of them suck.

It is possible to accomplish almost any task with one free hand.

That one hand is never usually free.

That my house is messier than it's ever been in my life, and it's okay.

That I won't be able to go potty by myself for a long, long time.

That when I hear a newborn cry, my milk starts to leak out from my breasts.

That it is possible to nusrse anywhere. Including in the sling while mommy goes pee.

That when I watch my baby sleep, I get teary.

When I watch Johnson & Johnson, Hallmark, and other sappy family-oriented commercials I also get teary.

"Mommy Brain" also known as "Momnesia" is very real.

That you really do lose your identity when you become a parent. So what?

That having sex during the first year with a new baby, well, it's mostly impossible. Sleep wins out every time.

That all it takes is a NANOSECOND for babies to learn to fall off of the bed, or sofa, or anything else.

A new baby can heal old wounds within families.

Everyday is a wonderful new discovery.

I am the best mom I can be for my son. I need to constantly remind myself of that.

My life finally feels completely fulfilled.
